My apps: everything I built for myself

Every app I built for myself with Claude Code, what each one does, the app it replaced, and a link to its full note.

Overview of my 31 apps, grouped by what they do, each next to the app it replaced: icons in NicAI style on the right, the old apps' icons on the left

This is the list of every app I built for myself. Most of them replaced a commercial app I used for years: Alfred, Path Finder, OBS, Hazel, TextMate, Fantastical. The others do a job no app did the way I wanted. Each one has its own note with the story, the numbers and how it's built.

They all started the same way. I describe what I want in 1 line, my agent studies how I use the old app, asks me its questions with a recommended answer for each, writes a spec, and builds the app once I approve it. Then I use it every day and keep changing it. Why I work this way: see The era of personal software is here.

The apps

31 apps. 23 of them replaced 22 apps I used to run. The other 8 do something no app did for me before.

What they have in common

  • Built with Claude Code. I don't write the code. I decide what the app does, test it and ask for changes.
  • Speed first. Every app has measured speed budgets, and each one has to beat the app it replaces. Speed is the main reason I switch.
  • Only what I use. Parity with what I used in the old app, plus the 1 to 3 things I always wanted. Everything else waits for version 2.
  • 1 look. Every app uses my own design system, the same as this site: black and white with red, and the hexagon edelweiss logo in every icon.
  • Built for my agents too. Each app has a command-line interface with JSON output. My Claude Code sessions read an app's state and run its actions without the window, so NicAI can drive every app. See What is NicAI and NicAI CC: the command centre for my Claude Code sessions.
  • Private by default. The apps run on my Mac and keep my data local. A few repos will go public once they're clean.

Where the list comes from

The tables are generated from 1 data file, so this page stays current: each new app gets a record and an icon, and a script rebuilds the tables and the overview graphic. Apps whose note isn't public yet appear without a link.
