This illustration from 2019 showed Art, Book writing & Programming as the "peaks" of human competence. Generative AI which is unfolding at breakneck speed this year is the foundation to reach those peaks.

As of today:
- Art: amazing images can be created just with a text prompt, in a few seconds.. first step towards AI-generated art with emotional resonance
- Writing: blog posts and social media posts can be written by an AI and achieve better engagement than humans.. first step towards full books written by AI
- Cinematography: short video clips can be created from scratch with just a text prompt.. first step towards full movies generated from a script (written by an AI or a human)
- Programming: computer code can be suggested with disturbing accuracy, and full functions generated just with a plain english prompt.. first step towards full apps coded by AI solely based on instructions

The progresson the Science side - another "peak" - is even more impressive, but I'll keep that for another post.

Side notes:
- Lex is a great guy to follow, his podcast is fascinating, and he has both brain and heart in the right places.
- Mark Tegmark's book "Life 3.0: Being Human in the Age of Artificial Intelligence" (published in 2017) might make your head hurt, but it will open your eyes as to the potential of AI.
