Vacheron Constantin was founded in 1755 by Jean-Marc Vacheron in Geneva — the oldest watch manufacture in continuous operation. François Constantin joined in 1819 and contributed the motto: "Do better if possible, and that is always possible."
The Maltese cross emblem (registered 1880) references the shape of barrel-spring stopworks. The company has produced watches without interruption for 270 years.
Vacheron Constantin is known for ultra-thin movements (Calibre 1003, 1.64mm thick, from 1955), complications (minute repeaters, perpetual calendars, world time), and hand-finishing techniques including skeletonization and enamel work. The brand holds the Geneva Seal quality standard.
Part of Richemont. Dress and heritage models (Patrimony, Historiques) start around €15,000. Complications run into six and seven figures. The 2024 Berkeley Grand Complication holds 63 complications.
