Stowa Flieger Classic 40 Sunray Blue

40mm Flieger with blue dégradé sunray dial, Sellita SW200 automatic, from one of the five original B-Uhr makers.

Stowa is one of the five original Flieger manufacturers commissioned by the Luftwaffe in WWII (alongside A. Lange & Söhne, Laco, IWC, and Wempe). Founded by Walter Storz in 1927 in Pforzheim. Revived by Jörg Schauer in 1996. Still made in Pforzheim today.

The Flieger Classic 40 Sunray Blue takes the historic Type A dial and adds a blue dégradé gradient - light at center, darkening to near-black at the edges. The sunburst finish catches light nicely and gives it a more modern, dressy feel than the standard matte black Flieger.

Context

The Sunray Blue and Green variants launched in 2025 as the first color dials in the Flieger Classic line. At 40mm with 48.6mm lug-to-lug, it wears well on most wrists. The top-grade Sellita with handmade rotor is a nice touch at this price point. Competes with Laco's Augsburg Blaue Stunde but with better finishing and a more refined dial treatment.
