Positioning Bauhaus-influenced design with in-house movements

Nomos Glashütte was founded in January 1990, shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Based in Glashütte, Saxony — the historic center of German watchmaking alongside Pforzheim.

Early models like the Tangente and Orion established the brand's Bauhaus-inspired aesthetic: slim cases, clean typography, small seconds subdials. Since 2005, Nomos has designed and produced its own movements entirely in-house, including the DUW 3001 and DUW 6101 calibers with the proprietary Nomos Swing System escapement.

This level of vertical integration is rare among independent brands at Nomos's price point (€1,500–4,000). Most competitors in that range use purchased ETA or Sellita movements.

Nomos targets design-conscious buyers and young professionals who want mechanical credibility without flashiness. The brand stays deliberately understated — no celebrity ambassadors, no sports sponsorships. Collections include Tangente, Orion, Club, Metro, and Tetra.
