If your home-office window turns your screen into a mirror for half the day, 3M glare-reduction window film is the built-in fix: a thin optical film applied to the inside of the glass that cuts glare, blocks solar heat, and stops UV fading, without blacking out the room or ruining the view. The pitch 3M uses is "block the glare, not the light," and for a desk you cannot move away from a sunny window, that is exactly the problem to solve.

How it works
Glare is just too much visible light reaching your eyes at a bad angle. Window film cuts it by reducing visible light transmission (VLT), the percentage of daylight the glass lets through. Lower VLT means less glare, but also a darker room, so the whole game is picking the right balance. Good film does this while still rejecting the invisible parts of sunlight (infrared heat and UV), so you also get a cooler room and less furniture fading as a bonus. The film is applied to the interior of the glass, professionally, and is effectively invisible when done well.

- Interior reflectivity. After dark, with the lights on, a reflective film turns the window into a mirror. Low interior reflectivity keeps the glass looking like glass at night, which matters if you work evenings.

The standout is Prestige: because it is metal-free, it does not interfere with Wi-Fi, cellular, or GPS signals and will not corrode over time, and its optical construction stays clear rather than adding a grey tint. It is the premium option and priced like one.
Choosing for a home office
The trade-off is glare cut versus room brightness. For a desk:
- Bright room, keep the daylight and view: a high-VLT Prestige 70 or 50. It stays clear, cuts a meaningful amount of glare and most of the heat, and does not darken the space or mirror it at night.
- Harsh direct sun, glare is the enemy: step down to Prestige 40 or a Night Vision 35, accepting a dimmer room for a bigger glare reduction.
- Evening screen work: prioritize low interior reflectivity (Prestige and Night Vision both do this well) so the window does not reflect your room back at you.
One caveat to raise with the installer: some films are not rated for certain double-pane low-E windows because they can raise thermal stress and risk a seal or glass failure. Match the film to your glass and keep the manufacturer warranty intact.

Buying and installation
3M film is sold and applied through authorized dealers, not off a shelf, and that is what carries the warranty. Find one via 3M's dealer locator on the official site. In Germany the same model applies: search for a 3M-authorized Fensterfolie / Sonnenschutzfolie installer for a quote and correct glass match. Alternatives worth pricing against 3M are LLumar and Solar Gard, both established window-film brands with dealer networks. Cheap DIY films exist (Gila and similar) but are harder to apply bubble-free and lack the optical clarity and warranty of a pro 3M install.
My take
For a home office, this is a real fix rather than a gadget: a sun-blasted desk is a genuine daily annoyance, and film solves it permanently where a blind you never close does not. I would start with the cheapest interventions, reposition the monitor, a matte screen, an external roller blind, and only go to film if the window geometry leaves no good angle. If I do buy, it is Prestige 50 or 70: clear, low-reflectivity, keeps the view and the daylight, and quietly cuts the heat too. The darker Night Vision films are for when glare control simply outranks brightness. Get a dealer to confirm it suits the glass before committing.
