MANGAS is a made-to-measure clothing shop in Munich's old town, at Kreuzstraße 4 near Sendlinger Tor. It has been making suits, shirts, trousers and jackets to measure since 1996, for men and women. It is not bespoke tailoring with a pattern drawn from scratch. It is Maßkonfektion: your measurements and choices applied to proven cuts, then each piece made one by one, mostly by hand.
Besides wool suits, MANGAS makes jeans and denim jackets to measure in Japanese selvedge denim, see Japanese Raw Denim.
Overview
- What it is: an owner-run made-to-measure shop with its own atelier store. 30 years old in 2026.
- What it makes: suits and costumes, jackets, trousers, waistcoats, shirts, tuxedos and morning coats, casual "smart casual" pieces, jeans, and made-to-measure Goodyear-welted shoes from Ambiorix in Belgium.
- Where it's made: only in Europe, in Munich, Belgium, Portugal and Spain. MANGAS says explicitly that it doesn't produce in Asia or in low-cost Eastern European countries.
- Fabrics: from European mills, with Vitale Barberis, Reda and Biella Manifatture for business wool, and Holland & Sherry, Scabal, Dormeuil and Loro Piana at the top end.
- Fit guarantee: every piece comes with a Passgarantie.

Denim and Japanese selvedge
MANGAS works with denim from several mills:
- Italy: Candiani, known for its sustainable denim.
- England: Brisbane Moss.
- Portugal: Troficolor.
- Japan: Kuroki, Japan Blue and TBW, the selvedge denims with the red-line edge.
Any of these fabrics can go into any made-to-measure piece: jeans, a trucker jacket, an overshirt, even a denim suit.
The point of jeans to measure: a ready-made Japanese pair fits a brand's idea of a body, and you hem and live with the rest. Made to measure fixes the rise, the seat, the thigh and the taper to your own body. The trade-off is that you can't try the finished pair before you order it.
How it works
- Book an appointment. Walk-ins are possible, but MANGAS recommends a booking to avoid waiting.
- Consultation and fabric choice in the atelier store, with style advice.
- Measurements. You try on sample garments in fitting sizes, and the tailor adjusts and records your measurements.
- Production in one of the European workshops, piece by piece. MANGAS states about 4 to 6 weeks, with an express option at extra cost.
- Collection and fit. The fit guarantee covers the result.
Your measurements stay on file, so later orders are faster. MANGAS also makes pieces from fabric you bring, and copies a favourite garment.
Good to know
- Value: MANGAS argues that made to measure doesn't have to cost more than off the rack. A suit from €649, made in Europe, supports the claim.
- Not bespoke: the cuts are adapted from existing patterns. For a fully hand-drafted suit, you need a traditional Maßschneider, at a higher price.
- Casual too: the denim range, the garment-dyed casual fabrics and the smart-casual line make it more than a suit shop.
- Sister brand: distingo is MANGAS's 2nd brand, with more images and options.
- 2nd location: made-to-measure appointments are also possible at Lebenswert in Bad Endorf, near Rosenheim.
