Read this book 4 years ago, and it has impacted my approach to work a lot: Deep Work - Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World, by Cal Newport (a great author to read generally).
"Deep work is the ability to focus without distraction on a cognitively demanding task."
Highly recommend if you feel you're not getting enough work done because of distractions.
Since reading this book, I have made it a habit to schedule daily deep work sessions (incl. dedicated deep work playlists, silencing all notifications, etc..) - and treating them with the same importance as a scheduled meeting (it's just a meeting with myself after all!).
- blocking long chunks of time for deep work in my calendar to avoid booking meetings that disrupt work efficiency
- removing distractions
- music/playlists optimised to get me in flow
- timer-based sessions
For example, I don't think I could have learned - and applied - Python, CSS, SQL, vector design, video editing and more (while working in a business/Sales role that does not call natively for spending time on these things) without this approach.
