Hyperkey
Hyperkey is a lightweight macOS utility by Ryan Hanson that turns the mostly unused Caps Lock key into a powerful hyper key — a simultaneous press of all four modifier keys: Control + Option + Command + Shift (⌃⌥⌘⇧).
This effectively gives you an entirely new modifier layer for keyboard shortcuts, since no app uses all four modifiers by default.

What It Does
- Remaps Caps Lock (or any modifier key) to the hyper key (⌃⌥⌘⇧)
- The hyper key works as an additional modifier in any app that supports keyboard shortcuts
- Can also remap Caps Lock to a single, more useful modifier key
- Works as a lightweight companion for apps like Rectangle, Keyboard Maestro, and others that rely on custom shortcuts
Good to Know
- Free to download and use
- Supports macOS 10.15+ on both Intel and Apple Silicon
- For more advanced functionality, the developer offers Superkey as an upgrade, which includes all of Hyperkey's features plus additional capabilities
- Password fields in macOS are secure input fields and will not respond to key remappings (this is an OS-level limitation)
- In Keyboard Maestro, record shortcuts by physically pressing all modifiers rather than using the hyper key in the recorder — the hyper key will still trigger the shortcut during normal use
