People get violent when who they are is in conflict with who they think they should be.

I see life as a succession of phases.
Each builds atop the previous one but can go in a complete different direction.
From childhood, teenage years, 20s, 30s, 40s - not always aligned with round numbers - feeding into each other the positive and the negative that will inform partly how the next phase unfolds.
I see now the value of dark times in one's life, challenging times, because they help with drive to achieve something during that time and improve one's self-awareness and re-alignment of values.
